Operational Excellence

Improve employee benefits to positively impact mental, physical, social and financial well-being.

The Approach

The Pharmaceutical company’s Group General Manager People & Culture along with direct leaders, used a Joyous campaign to talk to all 750 of their employees. Their goal: to understand and improve three key aspects of their current employee benefits package.

First, if the current benefits are viewed as competitive by employees. Second, if any of the current benefits needed to be changed or updated. Third, if there are any additional benefits missing that employees would like to see offered.

The Results

With an average score of 7.3 out of 10, 28% of employees felt confident that the current benefits were competitive.

63% of themes contained suggestions to update the current benefits. One of the top actionable themes was improving insurance-related benefits. Particularly, health insurance, income protection, and life insurance. Employees requested improvements to staff discounts on products as the current discounts weren't even matching local chemists. A project to improve staff discounts on products was kicked off two weeks after the campaign ended.

33% of themes contained suggestions for additional benefits that employees felt would add value. The most prevalent actionable theme was offering special leave such as birthday leave, mental health leave, volunteering leave, study leave, sabbaticals, and medical leave. Offer free gym memberships. Another top actionable theme was to offer free gym memberships.

The Impact

Discounted products + a new pick and mix approach to the benefits package that’s about diversity, age, and stage.
